New Arcadia

A dialogue between natural and manmade

NEW ARCADIA

After working with a pinhole camera for more than 20 years, this is the first time I took it to contemporary architecture. The limitations imposed by this slow photography method makes you look at architecture in a different way. The emphasis is on an experience, condensed into a single image. It shows what these architectural projects essentially are: a window from where people can connect with the natural environment that surrounds them.

This photographic essay was commissioned by Miró Rivera Architects for their monograph Building a New Arcadia. The Austin-based studio’s innovative constructions are blurring the lines between architecture and landscape, reflecting the particular urban context of Texas and its low-density city model. Miró Rivera Architects’ contribution to contemporary architecture stretches over two decades. In 2018 they were one of only 17 firms in North America to be selected by the editors of ArchDaily for their list of the World’s Best Architects.
